School for hairdressers

On the basis of education as a luxury that has to be paid for and because there is no infrastructure, most young women don’t have a job. They have to rely on marriage or stay with their parents. Often they steal or prostitute themselves to make a living.

The state-approved training to become a hairdresser or tailoress is a big deal for many women in Kenya. We built up two institutions where women can do the according education. We employ three teachers.

At the end of either two or three years of education and passing the final exam our students receive a certificate for their profession and have the chance to get a job and take care of themselves.
